This region already has a fair amount of luxury-loving petrolheads, but there’s still room for one more. Enter Mclaren, the performance car maker better-known for its Formula 1 racing:

The Middle East is on track to host McLaren Automotive’s first regional retail network, bringing to the market what is expected to be one of the world’s most desirable cars. The new range of high-performance sports cars will share the same headquarters that today hosts over 50 years of McLaren motorsport and performance sports car heritage, from Bruce McLaren’s 1954 Austin 7, to the record-breaking and legendary McLaren F1 road car of the ‘90s, and the most successful supercar ever in its price bracket, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.

McLaren hopes to have moved in by 2011, the same time it’s due to release its next-gen supercar. That gives you a little time to start saving then, these cars don’t come cheap.

Sony Vaio P Signature missed the point

June 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Sony Vaio p signature

We all know Sony’s marketing spiel, the ‘Vaio P isn’t a netbook’. Even though it comes in a small box, runs an Intel Atom processor and fits a tiny screen (and even smaller keyboard), it can run Windows Vista and ships with a huge price tag. But Sony have taken that effort to the next level with the Vaio P Signature range. What makes it so very signature? A small spec bump and a 256GB solid state drive for a cool US$2,000. Does that sound worth it to you?

Philips using Twitter to give away Cinema screen

June 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Picture 1

Philips is having some sort of competition, and it’s using Twitter to drum up support. The competition involves trying to create the best viral video in the world, advertising Philips 56in 21:9 cinema screen. The competition is worldwide, and all you need is a Twitter account to get involved. Just follow Philips_vs, and tweet ideas for your viral.

We’ve got one: Chuck a cinema screen off the Burj Dubai and film it smashing in slow motion – then have the screen pan out, and the slo-mo video is  being displayed on a Philips Cinema screen. What do you think?

June 25, 2009 · 2 Comments

Megan Fox plays Mortal Kombat, and is apparently quite good at it (and not just because it’s hard to concentrate with Megan bouncing up and down, button bashing on the sofa next to you). And yes, we know this is a shameless attempt to put up some Transformers totty, but can you blame us? More of the video game stuff, here. More sexy shots and video involving leather, here. (which link will you choose?)

i-mate mega-cheap handsets will go fast

June 25, 2009 · 2 Comments

Untitled-1

In what seems to be a good way of ditching stock, Sharaf DG has dropped prices on i-mate 8150 and 6150 handsets. The mobile prices have been cut down by 80 per cent, and can be yours for around US$200. Yes, these models are almost two years old and run Windows Mobile 6.0, but getting an upgrade to 6.1 isn’t very hard. Good for those of you still hesitant about getting a smartphone, and great if you just need a replacement WinMo phone.

Like the old saying goes, ‘when the going gets tough, grab a 12.1MP Pentax Optio W80′. Well, It’s something along those lines, anyway. This Pentax toughcam is exactly what the rugged techie ordered. It can handle depths of 5m, 3.3m drops, and sub-zero temperatures, which isn’t bad considering its also got 5x optical zoom, a 2.5in LCD screen, and 720p HD video recording at 30fps.

June 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

alteclansingexpressionplus1_01

Remember those Expressionist Bass speakers from Altec Lansing we gave away last February? No? To jog your memory, they looked like a cross between a dalek and a Saturn rocket. Well today Altec released its newest in the range, the Expressionist Plus. Unfortunately, its abandoned the sci-fi design theme, and gone with a more traditional 2.1 setup. Still, they’re sleek, sexy and have a proper subwoofer this time around. Yours for US$100.

Latest Aspire line keeps laptops in the game

June 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Aspire-7735.open-left

With netbooks and a new breed of sleek ultrathin ‘notbooks‘ vying for your hard earned PC budget, it’s no surprise the regular run-of-the-mill laptops have been ignored of late. If it’s not super-small and wafer-thin, then it’s just not worth putting in your shopping basket, right? Well Acer hopes to change all that with its latest Aspire line, and this AS5739G  (probably thought if the name was big and confusing, the laptop would appear small and simple by comparison) is no exception. It packs a Blu-ray player, 15.6in LED LCD screen, 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, GeForce GT 130 graphics card and Dolby surround sound output, all for bargain price of US$750. That sounds like a mighty fine deal to us.
